Where once HIV was a terminal disease, it is now a disease considered chronic...like diabetes, high cholesterol and hypertension. Where before people were required to take as many as 30 or 40 pills per day, now as few as 1 pill twice a day can be considered total therapy for certain types of HIV disease.

We have gone from grieving for our patients, to cheering their progress because a long and active life is pretty much a certainty at this point. Despite the success we are currently enjoying at containing the virus and improving the immune condition, we, as health care providers are required to be experienced in the chronic complications of HIV. And so, we believe it takes a well rounded internist, skilled in the ever changing disciplines of this disease and staying on the ‘cutting edge’ of new and improved therapies and medications to provide the care demanded by HIV/AIDS in the 21st century.

We are confident our practice is providing that demand by keeping in step with the latest and most advanced treatments and protocols available in HIV research at the present time. Our on going participation in clinical trials, educational seminars, community outreach programs and a more preemptive emphasis on nutrition and diet give our patients the edge that is needed in the successful management of their HIV/AIDS treatments.

Our expertise in the treatment of HIV includes but is not limited to the following:

Initial diagnosis and decision planning for future management

Initiation of HAART (highly active anti retroviral therapy)

Control the complications of HIV and its treatments, especially lipodystrophies

Nutritional and anabolic therapeutic modalities for wasting

Chronic pain management

As well as issues regarding:

Resistance,

Compliance

• Adherence

Check our clinical trials page for a list of current HIV trials being conducted at the practice.
